Dear Guests,

We are inviting you to the Joint Meeting of Anatomical Societies to be held in a city of history and culture. This meeting is made possible by our initial efforts four years ago to gather societies of anatomy and/or histology from six main European countries in Turkey and their generous heartening in every stage of our preparations. This enormous support reinforced with the traditional Turkish hospitality is a strong promise of a convincing scientific and social synergy.

Although the history of settlement dates back to 4000 BC, Bursa was an important city of the Byzantium. Then by 1326 it became the first capital of the Ottoman Empire which made it famous until the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Bursa shelters many monuments from this period. An important site to be mentioned is of course Iznik town (Nicaea) which is considered to be one of the three holy sites of Christianity.

Beyond its rich history Bursa is a lively, modern city holding the heart of Turkish textile and automotive industry, number one winter sports center and the home of delicious world famous Iskender Kebap. Although the mountain Uludag names almost everything in Bursa, it is also a coastal city of Marmara which makes it an important port.

The two logo figures of our poster, Karagoz and Hacivat, lived in Bursa and resemble wisdom and humor in their still going on shadow play. And Turkish coffee is the best symbol of hospitality which finds its meaning perfectly in the phrase "the memory of a cup of coffee lasts for forty years".

Our sole hope is to make this meeting memorable as a cup of coffee with a program planned and constructed in association with the participating societies under the main theme of neuroanatomy assorted with a satisfying social program prepared by the host society members.

Sincerely

Erdošan Žendemir
Congress President,
Vice President of Turkish Society of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy

Abstracts will be published in a special issue of the Journal "Anatomy"
